A Private Therapy Room for RMTs, Therapists and Counsellors in Uptown Waterloo
If you’re an RMT, therapist or counsellor in Kitchener-Waterloo, you’ve probably weighed two imperfect options. Sign a clinic lease you don’t fully need, or see clients from a room at home and hope it feels professional enough.
There’s another option now. Our refreshed space at 191 King Street South in Uptown Waterloo includes a private therapy room, which we call the Compass Room, built for the work you do. It has floor space for your own massage or exam table, lounge chairs for conversation, and yes, you can book it by the hour. You get a room that fits your practice without taking on a lease.
What practitioners kept asking us for
We’ve worked with specialized professionals in Waterloo since 2014. Doctors, lawyers and consultants come to us because they need private, client-facing space that reflects well on their work. Over those years, practitioners kept asking for something our offices and boardrooms weren’t designed to give them.
The most common request was space for a massage or exam table.
Our offices are set up for desk work. Our boardrooms are set up for meetings. Making either one work for a session meant moving furniture around, and moving it back afterward. We wanted a room designed around sessions from the start.
Counsellors told us something different. Many of them don’t like the idea of a desk or table between them and their client. A boardroom table changes the feel of a conversation.
The therapy room answers both requests. We built it because people asked for it, often and specifically.
Why we call it the Compass Room
A compass helps you find your direction without telling you what to do. We wanted this room to work the same way for a practitioner: steady, and pointed at your client. It gives the session direction without pressure, with no desk in the way and a softer, less formal feel than an office. It stays true however you set it down, just as this room stays set up for the work, so nobody moves furniture before a session.
A room set up for the way you work
Practitioners don’t all need the same room. An RMT needs open floor space for a massage table. A counsellor may want a couch and a chair, or armchairs, for conversation. So the therapy room has a few layout options to choose from, and the room is set up to suit each practitioner and the clients they see. You choose a layout for your session, and if none of them fits, ask us about a custom one. The lights are dimmable, so you can adjust the room to suit each client.
That flexibility also means the room works for more than one kind of practice. A massage therapist and a counsellor can both book it and find a setting suited to their work.
No desk between you and your client
We designed this room to feel softer and less formal than an office or a boardroom. It’s a more relaxed environment.
The room has a desk and laptop area for client notes, and lounge chairs or a couch and armchair combo for you and your client, so the session doesn’t have to happen across a desk.
For counsellors and therapists, that difference shapes the session. A desk signals an interview or a consultation. A couch and a chair signal a conversation. Many of the counsellors who spoke with us wanted the second one, and this room gives it to them.
It’s a private room in a professional building.
Seeing clients from home has limits
Plenty of good practitioners start from a spare room, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It keeps costs down while you build a client base. But a home practice tends to hit a ceiling, and it usually shows up in a few predictable places.
- Your address is out there. Intake forms, booking confirmations and receipts carry your home address. Every new client learns where you live.
- Privacy runs both ways. Your clients may share a hallway with your family, hear a dog or a doorbell, or park in your driveway. Your household, in turn, has strangers coming through on a schedule.
- First impressions are harder to control. A new client deciding whether to trust you with their body or their story is reading every signal, including the setting.
- Growth gets awkward. Adding hours, adding clients or bringing in a colleague is hard when the practice lives inside your house.
Moving your sessions to a professional location addresses those things. You keep your own practice, your own clients and your own way of working, in a setting that matches the care you put into the work.
If your business address is part of this decision, we’ve written about why your business address works harder than you think.
Who the room is for
We built the therapy room with a specific group in mind:
- RMTs and massage therapists who bring their own table and need floor space, privacy and a layout that suits their sessions.
- Therapists and psychotherapists who want a softer setting than an office for client sessions.
- Counsellors who prefer a couch and chair over a desk between them and their client.
- Assessors who need a private, comfortable room for one-on-one appointments.
It suits practitioners who see clients on some days and not others. Maybe you work out of another clinic part of the week and want a Waterloo location for the rest. Maybe you’re building a caseload and aren’t ready to commit to a full-time space. Hourly booking fits either situation.
What’s in the room, and what we handle
Here’s what you get when you book the therapy room:
- A desk and laptop area for client notes
- A couch, a chair and armchairs for you and your client
- Dimmable lights
- Floor space for your own massage or exam table
- Layout options to choose from, with custom layouts on request
- Booking by the hour, so you pay for the time you use
- Our front desk team, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
When your clients arrive during staffed hours, a real person greets them. They aren’t wandering a hallway or texting you from the parking lot to ask which door. That first moment sets the tone for the session, and it’s one less thing for you to manage.
The location helps too. We’re at 191 King Street South in Uptown Waterloo. The building is accessible by ION light rail, and it’s close to banks, restaurants and transit, which makes it easy for clients coming from across Waterloo Region. You can find directions on our location page, and more about the refreshed space on our new home page.
Support beyond the room, if you want it
Some practitioners only need the room. Others want a little more help running the business side, and that’s available without bundling you into anything.
- A professional Waterloo business address with your own mailbox, so your home address stays off your paperwork. See our virtual office options.
- Live phone answering in your business name. Our team takes messages and sends them to you by email, handles common questions using answers you provide, and can make simple outbound calls like appointment reminders, confirmations and rescheduling. It’s low-volume, human-led support from people who know your practice. Learn more about phone answering.
- Administrative support for invoicing, receipts and other tasks that eat into your evenings. See admin support.
- Meeting rooms and boardrooms for the times you need one, like a workshop or a meeting with a referral partner. See meeting rooms.
You choose the pieces that fit. Nothing here requires a long commitment.
Start with a conversation
Every practice is different. How often you see clients, which days, whether you need an address or phone support, and how you expect to grow all shape what makes sense. That’s why we build each package around the practice.
The next step is a short call about the right fit. Tell us about your practice and what you need, and we’ll put together a custom package with clear pricing. If it’s a fit, you can start booking the room. If it isn’t, you’ll still leave with a straight answer.
Book a call and tell us what your practice needs. If you’d rather sketch out your options first, try our package builder and we’ll take it from there.
